"Doctor! We're going to crash!"
"No we're not! Just keep pressing that button!"
Donna shrieked as the TARDIS catapulted through the vortex with alarming speed. The Doctor was frantically scampering around the console, his hair in his eyes and his bow tie askew.
"Doctor, what's going on—OW! Oh for the love of all that is holy!" Donna bellowed, falling sideways onto the floor with a thunk.

"Donna? Donna!" The Doctor dropped beside her. "Sorry, I don't know what all that was about, but we've stopped."
"Yeah, I can feel that. My head's still throbbing." Donna sat up and winced. "Where are we?"
The Doctor shrugged. "Dunno. Somewhere."
"Oh, that's clever, that is. Did you figure that out on your own?"
He stuck out his tongue. "I'm not going to help you up with that kind of attitude, Miss Noble."
Donna grumbled and stuck out her hand. "Go on then."
He helped her to her feet with a grin. "Let's see what awaits outside, eh?"
"Probably some slimy monster set on digesting us," Donna sighed. "Always is, innit?"
He snorted. "That was once."
"Um, did you forget the Martian slugs?"
"Okay, twice."
"And those Venusian turtles? With the tentacles?"
"Okay, okay! Let's just...go, okay?" He rolled his eyes. "Blimey."
She put her arm around him. "You know I love it though, right?"
He smiled down at her. "Yeah."

When they stepped outside, it was into a crisp three inches of snow. The sky was grey and overcast, clouds hanging like a wool blanket over the small, picturesque village. It looked as if it were made from Christmas ornaments, and could have been featured on a holiday greeting card. The houses were trussed up with lights and trees glowed warmly from every window.
"Oh, now this is just lovely!" the Doctor exclaimed. "Really, really lovely, eh Donna?"
She shivered. "Bit cold."

Five minutes later they stepped back into the snow, this time well-equipped. Donna was bundled in a bright blue coat with oversized buttons and a banana-yellow scarf; the Doctor sported a black peacoat and a twelve-foot-long scarf that Donna called "bleedin' ridiculous."
"This," he said in a wounded voice, "is an antique. It used to be quite my style, so hush."
The two set off down the cobbled road, basked in the yellow glow of the tiny shops and homes. "This is like a movie or a storybook," Donna murmured. "It's unreal. Where are we?"

"You're in Cunningham Village," said a voice from behind them. They both turned about, the Doctor's scarf trailing in the snow, to see a sandy-haired young man dressed head-to-toe in navy blue outerwear. His smile was a little too perfect and his eyes were covered by his bangs.
"Ah," said the Doctor, a little doubtful. "Thanks for that. I'm the Doctor, and this is my friend Donna."
"I'm Crispin." The man stepped forward to shake hands. His mittens were damp, as if he'd been playing with snow. "Welcome."
"Thanks," the Doctor said. "Listen, you wouldn't happen to know... if there's been anything strange that's happened here lately? I dunno, something like a meteor falling from the sky, any strange pieces of machinery found in an alley? Anything like that?"
Donna gave him a confused stare, but Crispin nodded. "Oh yes. In fact, I have the thing at my house. Would you care to...?"
"Oh, please! That would be wonderful!" The Doctor grinned. "What luck, eh, Donna?"
She shrugged. "Um, sure."

They followed Crispin up the street some more, and Donna tugged the Doctor a few feet behind. "Mind tellin' me what all that was about?"
"Something pulled the TARDIS off course," the Doctor murmured. "Something drew it here, and I think I know what it is."
"What?"
"Something from Gallifrey," the Doctor replied in an undertone as they came to a halt in front of a magnificent iron gate. Crispin pushed it open and held it for them. Donna tried to mask her astonishment as she passed him.
"Lovely house you've got," she said, faking a smile. "Very... big."
"It's my father's," Crispin said simply. "Please, this way." He led them to a large shed off to the side of the house. "It's in there."

The Doctor paused in front of the door.
"It's unlocked," Crispin urged. "I won't join you, I... I don't like to be near it."
Donna stopped the Doctor's hand. "There's something odd about this, don't you think?"
He looked sideways at her. "Yeah. But we can't just stand around, right?"
She half-smiled. "I'm with you whatever happens, just don't get us killed."
He patted her arm. "I'll try my best."
IT BE HERE.
